Can you describe a bit of your background? Where do you come from, what you've done etc ?
I was born in Seattle, Lived in Brooklyn NYC for about six years. I went to University at The New School Jazz & Conteporary Music School while living there and now I am living in the UK. I did a lot of giging while living in New York with my band, wrote and recorded a bunch of songs then got a deal with Grand Central Records to do an album. When I came to the UK I started working with some UK producers. I wrote and sang with Only Child for his 'Solitaire' album, and Mr Scruff for his 'Trouser Jazz' album. I worked with Aim, Mark Rae, Mr. Scruff and Riton for my 'Life on Earth' album. Then I did several of tours with the Aim live band and now Aim is producing my next album. We have also started rehearsing with the Aim live band and it's sounding sweet!
What are you up to at the moment?
I have been writing and recoding my second album which is currently untitled. I've been doing a few sneaky test trys of new songs at recent PA gigs and they have been going down peachy. I've also been
writing and singing on Aim's upcoming third release "Flight 602"
Have you listened to any decent music recently?
I bought Arcade Fires 'Funeral ' album and I like to sing along to that in the car. I like Kanye West and the Go Team. I'm always pulling out my old favorites like Sam Cooke, Nina Simone, and Sterolab 'Dots and Loops'
Have you done anything interesting recently?
I went to the Giants Causway in Ireland a bit ago. that was pretty interesting...we had a nice day off after doing a gig in Belfast and Derry. We didn't get back to the hotel til 4 am or so and then I was woken up at 8am by these orange marching men with drums and flutes. i looked out my window and there they were just marching and making a big noise. Actually that’'s not so interesting. Never mind!
What car do you drive?
Well it's not the everyday car but my "cool" car is my 1979 lime-green baywindow VW bus. I've been fixing it up and I'm sure I'll be up somewhere beautiful in the lakes or at some festival soon. Maybe I'll stay in my van vs. the tour bus cause then I don't have to deal with 12 stinky boys soxs which is really 24 stinky soxs
times how ever long we have been on the road. Gross!!!
With your next album, what are you hoping to achieve?
Well i think that the album is sounding more naturally like myself already. It's different from last time cause half of the songs on my last album passed through so many different producers and morphed into different songs all together. Other songs were started from a beat. This time it's pretty much all starting from me sitting at the keyboard. Also with Aim being the only one producing it, there aren't too many cooks in the kitchen. So I hope this album is more me and less outside input.
